Szilard's commitment to the truth and his visions of world peace
Szilard's Commitment to Truth
"Very often it is difficult to know where one's set of values comes from, but I have no difficulty in tracing mine to the children's tales which my mother used to tell me. My addiction to the truth is traceable to these tales…"
(William Lanouette, Genius in the Shadows, p. 5)

Szilard's Vision for a World Government
During the early Cold War, Szilard thought much about ways in which the world could become safer despite nuclear weapons. He advocated for bringing nuclear technologies under international oversight and thought about the creation of a world government. He discussed the idea with fellow scientists at the Atomic Energy Control Conference at the University of Chicago.
Utopian Visions
In an attempt to advocate for nuclear disarmament, Szilard published The Voice of the Dolphins and Other Stories in 1961. Mixing science fiction and satire, he presents a fictitious world in which the nuclear threat becomes real.
